New World Coffee - Manhattan Bagel, Inc. owns, operates and franchises coffee bars and integrated bagel bakeries throughout the United States and in Columbia. The company has 377 retail stores including 15 company owned and 362 franchised stores. The company purchases beans from across the world which are roasted in the Connecticut plant and then supplied to company-owned and franchise stores. The Bagel stores offer more than 23 varities of fresh baked bagels. During 1999, the company acquired the assets of Chesapeake Bagel Bakery. Coffee, bagel and cheese accounted for 63% of 1999 revenues; retail stores, 22% and franchise fees, 15%.
